I never thought I’d have to make a page like this, but since I’ve seen it crop up several times at this point, I should make this clearer to folks who cite this blog in an article or a wiki:
The Name of this website is “You Found a Secret Area.” Not “A Secret Area.”
Like, I get it, yeah. I tend to use “the Secret Area” on social media and elsewhere as shorthand, and I could see it being considered a secondary nickname for the site. But as the “What’s with the name?” page states, it’s a reference to Quake. I know the web address might be shorter than the blog title, but the title and the logo is plastered everywhere. It’s hard to miss, at least I think so.
Maybe it’s because people thought the “You Found” is a slogan of some kind, but I assure you it’s not. That is the site name I’ve been using for 13 years — give or take a few months when it was called “You Found a Secret” — and I’d appreciate it if folks started getting this right.
I feel bad having to point this out, but it’s become so fairly common that it’s… kinda frustrating? Thus this PSA.
And since someone might ask: Yes, I am referencing “The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads,” a live album by Talking Heads released in 1982. which is them basically telling people to stop adding “The” to the front of their band name.
